Skateboarders allowed to take office in government building for 1 day only.

Saturday 25 April 2015 marks a prolific day for all skateboarders in the Western Cape as the annual Red Bull Unlocked event takes over the entrance halls of the Provincial government building that sits between Dorp and Wale Streets. The building, home to the office of the Premier of the Western Cape, will play host to 32 of the country’s most inspired and talented skaters as they battle it out for the Red Bull Unlocked title.

Cape Town skaters usually don’t have it easy and are, more often than not, chased away from the best skate spots the city has to offer. This time they’ll have the opportunity to skate in a never before skated spot. It will be the third edition of the competition that has seen Durban’s Peoples Park at Moses Mabhida Stadium and Johannesburg Library Gardens unlocked.

Due to the nature of the building participation is by invite only. 30 skaters have been preselected to take part with the another 2 being selected from a Game of S.K.A.T.E. held at Salesians last weekend.  Invited skaters include defending Red Bull Unlocked champion Gavin ‘Moses’ Adams, Jean-Marc Johannes, Alan Morola, Khule Ngubane and 12 year old Tyler Kammies.

“This competition is one of the highlights on the skate calendar for me. This time it’s right in my backyard and I’m excited to try to defend my title and make it a hat-trick” says Adams of defending his title in his hometown.

The skaters will have to throw down in front of the esteemed judging panel of Brendan Body and Luke Jackson of Session Skateboading Magazine and Riaan van Biljoen of the National Skateboarding Association in order to make it to the next round.

There will be a skateboarding workshop between 12 and 1pm, hosted by Africa Skate and The National Skate Collective with the contest taking place thereafter.
